Since the lab's inception in 2004, we've had a number of outstanding individuals contribute to the lab. The people listed below all have moved on to great things.

Tayne Andersen successfully completed an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) while in the O'Connell Lab. Tayne's project was titled "EPA-Ffar4 Signaling is Required to Reduce Inflammation in the Heart".

Katie Ernste successfully completed an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) while in the O'Connell Lab. Katie's project was titled "Unique role for Ffar4 is independent of fibrosis".

Brandon Wagner is currently a graduate student in the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology at the University of Minnesota. Brandon successfully completed an Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) titled "Free Fatty Acid Receptor 4 is Required for an Adaptive Response in a Mouse Model of Pressure Overload-Induced Heart Failure."

Sabrine Garrison is a medical student at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, Canada. Sabrine successfully completed an Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) titled "High Fat Diet Induced Obesity as a Model for Cardiac and Metabolic Dysfunction."

Brandon Daly (2016 - 17) completed an honor's thesis while in the O'Connell Lab. Brandon's thesis is titled: alpha1-adrenergic receptors are necessary for normal prostate development in mice.

Jocelyn Perry (2015 - 16) completed an honor's thesis while in the O'Connell Lab. Jocelyn's thesis is titled: Compartmentalization of alpha1-adrenergic receptor signaling in adult cardiac myocytes.

Jesse Bennet was a summer intern in 2012. Jesse currently works as a medical device rep for RSW Medical in Watertown, SD.
2011

Mindy Novak was a summer intern in 2011. Mindy graduated from the University of South Dakota with a RN BSN degree. Mindy is a nurse in Seattle Washington.

Erika Dahl was an intern in 2011 through May 2012. Erika earned her PhD through the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota in 2018. She is currently employed by the Halloran Consulting Group, Inc.

Alan Sazama was an intern in 2010. Alan graduated medical school and is currently practicing emergency medicine at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD

Josh Locker was an intern in 2009. Josh completed medical school at the University of Iowa and is currently a orthopedic surgery resident at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

David Krause was an intern in 2009. David is finishing a radiology residency at Indiana University School of Medicine.

Tony Pedri was an intern in the lab from February 2008 until June 2009. Tony completed medical school at the University of Washington and is currently finishing an orthopedics residency at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.

Joshua Hulst was a summer intern in 2007. Joshua completed medical school at the University of Iowa and currently is a general practice physician with Western Colorado Physicians Group in Grand Junction, CO.

Sivakanthan Kasinathan was a summer intern in 2007 and 2008. Siva is currently enrolled in the MD/PhD program at University of Washington. Siva defended his thesis during the fall of 2017 and will graduate the program in 2019.

Megan Elgethun was a summer intern in 2006. Megan went on to medical school and currently is a radiologist at St. Paul Radiology in St. Paul, MN.

Jamie Kapplinger was a summer intern in 2006 and 2007. Jamie graduated from the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN in 2018 and is currently practices general surgery there.

Cassie Hajek was a summer intern in the lab in both 2004 and 2005. Cassie went on to medical school and currently practices internal medicine and medical genetics at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
